Dhikala Canter Safari – Your Gateway to Corbett’s Heart

If you're staying outside Corbett and want to explore the Dhikala zone during the day, the canter safari is your only option. Regular jeeps aren’t permitted in Dhikala by day, but these special “canter” buses carry 18 people at a time from Ramnagar.

Here’s how it works:

  • Morning canters depart Ramnagar at sunrise and return in the afternoon.
  • Afternoon canters leave around noon and are back by evening.
  • Officially known as “Ramganga Conducted Tours,” these are the only same-day access into and out of Dhikala.

Why Choose the Canter Safari?

  • More cost-effective than a jeep safari if you’re solo.
  • 5–6 hour guided tour with two canters (16 seats each) plus an expert Corbett guide.
  • 30-minute refreshment break at Dhikala Forest Lodge.
  • Permits must be booked well in advance.

Safari Timings

  • Morning shift: 6 AM (sunrise) – approx. 11 AM
  • Afternoon shift: 12 PM – approx. 5 PM

If you couldn’t secure accommodation inside Dhikala, this is how you can still experience its famed grasslands, riverbanks, and wildlife from outside the park.

Entry Requirements

  • Driving License, PAN Card, Voter ID, Passport, Student ID – whichever you used when booking
  • Bring the exact same ID document for verification
  • Foreign visitors: Passport + photocopy
  • Safari charges are NON-REFUNDABLE once paid
  • All visitors need permits issued by the Ramnagar park administration
  • 3-day permits can be issued on-the-spot if you have photocopies of your ID ready
  • Permits are non-transferable and non-refundable once issued
  • Park authorities aren’t responsible for any personal or property damage

Permit Details for Different Zones

Corbett has four main entry points: Jhirna, Bijrani, Dhikala, and Durgadevi. You need separate permits for safari vehicles and forest lodge stays. Book online at least 30 days ahead—only 75 safari vehicles are allowed in the park at any time.

Once you book a specific zone, you can only safari in that zone—no cancellations or changes.

  • Bijrani & Jhirna: 30 safaris each per day
  • Durgadevi: 15 safaris per day
  • Dhikala: 2 canters (16 seats each) for day visits

Note: Park officials may cancel permits for valid reasons and will provide written notice.
